In Mathematics, our students achieve a 77% proficiency rate — 20 percentage points above the statewide average of 57%. In ELA, we reach 74%, surpassing the NYS average of 53% by 21 points.
In Science, P.S. 83 records 72% proficiency, a remarkable 27 points above the state's 45% — the widest margin of all three subjects.
These aren't one-year anomalies. P.S. 83 consistently outperforms both the district and the state, year after year — proof that our curriculum, our teachers, and our culture of excellence are working.
When high expectations are the norm for every student, every student rises. At P.S. 83, achievement isn't reserved for a few — it's what we expect and deliver for all.
These results don't happen by accident. They reflect a staff of expert educators who know their subject matter and adapt to every learning style in the room.
Students who meet proficiency in Grades 3–5 are measurably better prepared for the academic demands ahead. Our results ensure your child enters middle school confident and ready.
Early Childhood · 3-K & Pre-K
Our earliest learners are guided through NYC's research-backed Creative Curriculum — a play-based, project-driven approach that develops the whole child before kindergarten. Our youngest students also enjoy dedicated Art and Physical Education.
Play-Based Learning
Children learn by playing and exploring. Lessons are hands-on and focus on helping the whole child grow. This is used in 3-K and Pre-K classrooms.
Project-Based Studies
Learning is organized into longer projects, such as studying trees, clothing, or balls. These projects help children explore topics in a deeper way.
Literacy and Math Focus
Students practice reading and math skills every day. Classrooms also use many different children's books.
Support for Teachers
Teachers have digital planning tools that help them plan lessons and meet each child's needs.
Inclusive Approach
The program supports multilingual learners and creates fair, welcoming classrooms for all students.
The research-based programs our teachers use across the core subjects.
No two learners are the same — so P.S. 83 meets every student where they are. Our Academic Ladder of Support works hand in hand with our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to identify what each child needs early and respond with the right level of help, whether that means enrichment, intervention, or something in between. Multilingual learners and students receiving special education services are supported every step of the way.
