At P.S. 83, we don't just teach children — we believe in them. Every student who walks through our doors is met with high expectations, real support, and a community that wants to see them thrive. PS 83 changed my daughter's relationship with learning. The teachers don't just teach — they invest. She went from struggling with reading in 2nd grade to winning a writing award in 4th.
We are one of the few elementary schools in East Harlem with a Mount Sinai School-Based Health Center right inside our building. Students can see a doctor or talk to someone about how they feel during the school day — at no cost to families.

Luis Muñoz Rivera
poet · journalist · 1859–1916
Luis Muñoz Rivera grew up to be a poet, a journalist, and a leader. He founded the newspaper La Democracia so the people of his community would always have a voice. Our school carries his name — and like him, we believe every child has a story worth telling, and the words to tell it.
