Fully Accessible Building

P.S. 83 is committed to a website — and a school community — that everyone can use, including visitors with disabilities and those using assistive technologies.

Accessibility Statement

P.S. 83 Luis Muñoz Rivera is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities and those using assistive technologies.

Our goal is to provide a digital experience that complies with the most current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Level AA, as required by the NYC Department of Education.

Standards and guidelines

We strive to align this website with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA (or the most current standard adopted by the NYC DOE, currently WCAG 2.2 Level AA), which explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities.

These guidelines cover requirements related to text alternatives for images, keyboard navigation, color contrast, readable text, captions and transcripts for multimedia, and consistent site navigation.

What we are doing

To support our commitment to accessibility, we:

1

Use templates and components that are designed with accessibility in mind (for example, proper headings, labels, and alt text).

2

Regularly review pages for issues such as missing alternative text, low color contrast, or incorrect heading structure.

3

Use automated tools, including the WAVE evaluation tool recommended by the NYC DOE, to help identify accessibility barriers.

4

Provide training and guidance to staff who create and update website content.

Ongoing improvements

We recognize that accessibility is an ongoing process.

As we add new pages or features, we will continue to review and improve our website to help ensure it remains usable for all visitors, including those using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnifiers, voice recognition software, and translation tools.

If you encounter an accessibility issue, please let us know so we can address it.
